Paint over stained wood siding?

I have an addition to my home that is all wood siding, and was stained with an oil based stain. Wife hates the look of it, and wants me to paint it. Can I use an exterior latex paint over oil based stain? Thanks in Advance!

I would suggest using a oil based stain blocking exterior primer over the existing finish to ensure bonding as well as blocking any possible bleed through problems. Then any exterior paint, oil or latex, can be used over that.Follow all the usual prep work and label instructions.

I agree it would be best to use an oil base exterior primer first. There are times that you can use latex directly over the oil stain but there are many factors involved as to whether or not you would get good results. Using an exterior primer first will insure there are no problems.
