Faded paneling

We have some old type paneling that is wood like, with the grooves in it. We took pictures down and it is faded where the pictures are. I do not want to paint it. I tried putting some stain on the faded areas, it took alittle, but not good enough. What can I do to make this look better?

Welcome to the forums

Wish I had a good answer for you but short of refinishing I doubt there is much you can do. I don't know if it is sunlight, ozone or what but because where the pictures were that part of the paneling was protected and didn't age like the exposed areas.
