Question Butcher Block counter top

HI, I sanded my butcher block counter top and then cleaned it with Mex. The Mex pulled out the glue in the wood and it looks slightly moldy in areas. I am considering staining it to cover the greenish look. Is this a good idea and if so what kind of stain...Oil or water based? And, if I stain it should I then poly it or use tung oil? Thanks...Grit

Do you mean you cleaned it with MEK, methl-ethel-ketone?? Butcher block tops should not be stained or finished. The only finish should be an occasional coating of vegtable or mineral oil. Companies that sell butcher blocks also stock what the manufacturers recommend.
