Pickling Paint on Wood floors?

I would like to apply a pickled effect on my older wood floor in a bedroom. Currently the floor has no wax or varnish of any kind on it. Is this possible, and if so, how do I proceed?
Much thanks for your replies!

Welcome to the diy forums

Is the wood raw/unfinished?

Basically there are 2 ways to get a pickled finish. One is to use a pickle stain [most paint stores can mix it up for you] and the other is more of a faux finish technique. Staining is fairly simple but it is best to have a clean sanded surface to apply the stain too. Once the stain is dried, apply several coats of poly. I've only helped to apply a faux finish pickle job once - over 30 yrs ago, it was mostly done with paint and varnish.

The floors are OLD wood floors....no finish on them whatsoever. I plan to sand first of course. Would the pickling stain be the easiest way to go? And what kind of poly over it? I know some of them will yellow with age. Thanks for your help!

If the floors have never been finished it will take quite a bit of sanding to get to good fresh wood to stain. The better the sand job the better the stain will look.

Oil base poly dries harder and is more durable than the waterbase but it will yellow/amber with age. Water base poly won't yellow and dries quicker. Most any paint store [not paint dept] can mix up the pickling stain for you. They can also help you decide which of their products will work best for you.
