What's the Best...

Poly. I was at Lowe's tonight and the guy recommended Varathane Poly. Is it really better? Jesus it cost $38 a gallon comparred to MinWax $27., that's a BIG difference. What so much better about Varathane?

Thanks

Never used Varathane, but personally, I hate Minwax poly. It's too thin and runny, IMO. But I'm used to using Valspar, a thick poly that builds up quickly I guess. I like Minwax's wood stain but not their poly.

$38 a gallon isn't unreasonable. Just a little over $9 per quart if bought seperately. Buying the gallon makes more sense if you're doing a lot of finishing. I suppose the difference might be in the consistancy, flowability, the working time... maybe the hardness of the end product. Not sure though. Prettier label? ha ha!

If you are asking about something for a floor, none of the above. Go to a flooring supplier or refinisher for products better designed for floors. For finishing cabinets and furniture, I have had good luck with Minwax. But obviously, some like it some don't.
