finishing outdoor wood furniture
Hi there,
I am preparing to stain and refinish our outdoor wood furniture. I read somewhere about using a varnish (spar?) and some other treatment that is used for boats to provide a long lasting finish. Unfortunatley I can't remember exactly what was recommended.
Any one have information on the best way to finish outdoor wood furniture?
Thank you,
Betsy

You definetly want to use a spar varnish or spar urathane. Regular poly/varnish isn't rated for exterior use. The most readily available spar urathane is minwax's helmsman. Dependent on the weather it recieves you will need to lightly sand and recoat periodically. There may be boat finishes that are superior to helmsman.
