staining

hello everyone....
I was wondering if you can stain over stain.. I have a wood rail and i was wondering if you could stain over another stain without doing all the sanding and stuff.. I havent ask my husband yet, i wanted to ask you all first...ha ha... someone please let me know. so i dont have to ask him.....

If the wood has a finish on it like lacquer, varnish, polyurethane, or even wax, it will not accept more stain.

Depending on the type of finish currently on the wood and what you wish to change it to - a tinted poly like minwax polyshades might fit the bill.
