Smile Old Smelly Cupboard with Layers of Paint

Just purchased an old cupboard. I like the distressed worn look of it but it is very dirty and smells musty. I'm not sure if I should just strip and refinish it. I want to use it in my kitchen. Any suggestions on how to start? I have a picture I can send if it will help.

Thanks - Catherine

Try cleaning the cupboard before making the decision to strip and repaint. Wash inside and out, including drawers and interior of cabinet box, with all purpose cleaner. Odor absorber, such as coffee grounds, activated charcoal, baking soda, or other, can be placed in cabinets and drawers to absorb odors. If this is unsuccessful, you can paint or seal interior of cupboard, including all drawer surfaces and interior of cabinet box. By sealing odors in, you can still have the old, worn look of the exterior.
