bad job of sanding now what

I found out that I didn't get all the cross scratches out when I sanded and after I applied an oil stain it left definite scratch lines. Is there anything I can do now? Its a cookoo clock and I hate the thought of remaking it. Would reapplying make it worse?

if you dont want the scratches to show, I think your only choices are to sand it again, or to paint it.

Had my wife (tole painter) look at it and it has sort of been decided to paint it an off white and antique it. I have never had a stain job turn out that bad. It really looked terrible.
