lighten dark non wood cabinets
#1

I am in the process of buying a house and the kitchen cabinets are a dark wood look.(exept for the trim they are not real wood)
I love the look of light wood. Is there any way to make them look lighter? I realy don't want to have to resort to painting them white.
please doesn't anyone else have any ideas? as i said I'm buying a new house that means i can't afford to have them resurfaced.

The only non-paint solution I can come up with is to resurface the cabinets. There are companies that do this and can give you a price. It's not a task I would suggest to the average home owner. Doing it yourself in this instance is a lengthy, tedious process.
Buying the materials, cutting to fit, making allowances for changing dimensions due to the resurfacing, etc...
Perhaps another reader can offer a better suggestion.
