refinishing birdseye maple

I have a birdseye maple top on a large kitchen island that has been finished with a varathane-type finish. This was not done very good (brush and swirl marks). Can this be fixed? If not, what is the best plan of attack?

Welcome to the forums!

If it's just brush marks in the finish, you can sand them out with 220 grit sandpaper, wipe off the sanding dust and recoat. If your having trouble with brush marks you can thin the varnish a little so it will flow better. Be sure to use a good natural bristle brush.
