kitchen cabinets, clear lacquer is coming off, need advice on re-staining

I have 5 year old custom made cabinets, solid maple. I noticed that some of the lacquer is coming off. The ones above the stove where the steam is rising to and some other's that are not around the stove. I can see some streaking How can I touch these area's up and not make a mess? I don't want to damage the wood above the stove due to the lacquer being removed.

You'll need to sand off the failing coating and recoat. Are you sure it's lacquer? can you find out for sure what type of finish the cabinet manufacture used?

There are some brushable lacquers on the marked but I've never used them. Poly might also be an option.

How to Re-finish an Old Cedar Trunk?

My wife has an old cedar trunk that she inherited from her grandmother, that we had to repair by gluing it back together again. We sanded it down somewhat, but there are still a lot of areas that need to be filled with wood filler, etc... I used a light colored wood filler on it somewhat already, as you can see from the photos below (I might have to remove this filler if it doesn't finish OK) What is the best way to fill the holes/spots and also what is the best way to finish the trunk so it looks nice? We don't want to just paint it, but rather apply some kind of finish to show the nice wood grain of the cedar. Advice would be appreciated. I want to slow the RPM's of my router

I am in the process of making cabinet doors, with maple and while making the cope cuts on my stiles I noticed I am burning the wood. I am assuming the RPM of my router is too fast, it is 27000. So, is there a way to slow my router down? I never thought about investing in a variable speed router. I have seen what I think is a Reostat, I beleive that it decreases the voltage to electic tools or appliances and I am wondering if that will work. Any IDEAS ????????????????:wall: DanORead More
