painting sanded plywood

I want to use 1/4" sanded plywood to make the facia above the kitchen cabinets. Its an odd kitchen in a rental. The cabinets are only 5" from the ceiling. I am just wanting to use something heavier than the plastic that was there.

So my question is how to paint it so it looks like the cabinet wood. Everything is getting repainted now, so if I just oil prime it and use the same oil base paint I bought for the cabinets will it work out ok?

Sounds like a plan, don't forget you'll need to sand the primer after it dries. You'd also want to caulk it to both the cabinet and the ceiling.
Not sure I understand the 'plastic fascia'
