Confusing post, refinishing wood table end, no clue what that means.
If your trying to change the color of the stain under a sealed surface your going to have to sand it back to bare wood and start over.
No one here knows with what your working on since there is no picture.
Is this a veneered piece of furniture?
Do you really mean it's an end table, not wood table table end?

As Joe said, we need some clarification as to what you are working on and wanting to do. Pics might help http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...-pictures.html

As noted, stain only works on raw wood. It can be difficult to completely remove all of the existing finish by sanding only. Often it's best to remove the majority with a chemical stripper and then finish with sanding.

Post a picture Paul, also on any DIY site it's best to add your own post not just hijack someone elses.
