refinishing dining room table

I have a beautiful old (40 some years) Drexel dining room table that desperatly needs to be refurnished but have no idea where to begin or would I be better off hiring a professional?

As a first step I would suggest getting a copy of Bob Johnson's excellent book, "The Weekend Finsher". It covers just about everything you'll need to know - then you can make the decision as to whether you want to try it yourself.
