I HAVE A STANLY BEDROOM SET THAT IS APPROXIMATELY 35 YEARS OLD AND WOULD LIKE TO REFINISH IT. IT IS OAK WITH NON-WOOD FRONTS ON THE DRAWERS. WHAT PROCESS AND WHAT MATERIAL DO WE HAVE TO USE TO STAIN IT A DIFFERENT COLOR, WHITEWASH IT OR PAINT IT. ALSO WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY 1800 FEET OF WOODWORK THAT IS STAINED AND POLYURETHANED. WE WOULD NOW LIKE TO PAINT IT BUT WALL TO WALL CARPETING IS IN THE ROOMS AND WOULD LIKE TO FIND THE EASIEST WAY TO DO IT.

The breadth of your questions is enough to write a book on, so I'm going to suggest one you get and read. "The Weekend Finisher" by Bob Johnson is under $20 at Amazon.com and worth twice the price. It will give you all the basic information you need. After you read it, if you have specific questions about any part of the process, don't hesitate to come back.

As for the woodwork, repost your question in the painting forum - they're much more knowledgable about working against carpet, etc., than I am.
