Question

I have an old pine farm table that I have completely stripped. I plan to use it in my kitchen which means it will get alot of use as I have 3 small children. I like the old scratched, nicked, weathered, look and thought I would finish it with a wax finish, maybe Briwax. Is that going to be durable enough ?

In those circumstances, in a word, "NO!"

I'd suggest you consider either polyurethane or a standard varnish with a low sheen (satin). This will give about the same lustre as a wax finish while providing a much more easily maintained surface - more durable too.
