How do I refinish vinyl covered paneling?

Our cupboards have wood doors but vinyl covered paneling was used for the rest. If I refinish the wood, the rest of the cupboard will look dull. Is there anything I can do or should do? Is there an oil I should use on the vinyl or should I just wash it and say good enough.

If the vinyl is like vinyl siding (solid), it can be painted. Lowe's (among others) carries a paint made specifically for vinyl. I should imagine most home centers do. ask for it, in their paint department.
