Varnish is wearing off kitchen cabinets
#1
I bought an older home & I like the cabinets that are in the kitchen but when I finally got all of the dirt & grime off of them (I used wood soap & then lemon oil) the varnish seemed to be worn off. I like the color of the cabinets & don't relish the idea of stripping & restaining. Is there a product or way I can just revarnish. (Steelwool & recoat without stripping)

You say 'older' home, but you don't say how much older. At any rate, the cabinets are probably finished in either lacquer or standard varnish - either one can be recoated without stripping...but you need to know for sure which one you're dealing with.
Take a rag dampened with lacquer thinner adn rub a small are with a circular motion. If teh rag starts to drag/stick, stop. The finish is lacquer thinner. If you get no reaction, the finish is standard varnish.
To refinish with lacquer, jsut make certain the surface is clean and dry, and reapply brush on or aerosol lacquer .
For varnish, you'll need to sand teh cabinets - just enough to scuff them up. You don't have to sand the old finish off.
The brush on the varnish.
