Fixing scratches on a wooden headboard.

I would like to fix scratches on a headboard.
the result does not need to be perfect at all, it is ok if the scratches will be visible when examining it.
but hoping to significantly improve the current state with a fairly easy solution. (defiantly not sanding and repainting) .

I am currently in the Dominican republic, so my access to some specialized product might be limited.

If i find a very similar color and use a small brush, will it work?
Is there a method for matching colors?

I will be glad to receive any advice.

Here is a product that I have, it works very good on light scratches. There are so many different products out there depending on the severity of the damage, from stains, markers, and wax pens!

Welcome to the forums Jerome!

Wiping over the scratches with the same color stain often results in the scratches being darker. A stain a shade or two lighter often works. While it would be ok to apply the stain with a brush it still needs to have the excess wiped off - I'd skip the brush and just use a rag.
