Dark Marks

My husband is stripping legs on chairs that I am having
reupholstered.

They were a dark cherry finish and I want them to be a very
light cherry.

After stripping and sanding as much as possible, there are
dark blotches on parts of the wood.

Is there a way to get these out.

Possibably by bleaching in some way?

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

He wants to give up but I am a fighter.

Thanks,

Josie:

A 2-part wood bleach would be the best approach - look for it at your home center.

You should be aware, however, that no matter how light you get it, cherry darkens naturally with age, and will go darker than what you see (raw) when you apply a finish.
