I am looking for a wood that's not too thick but also not "flaky" like particle board. I want to use a jigsaw to cut out at shoe pattern out of wood, then sand/smooth the edges of the wood so it can be used to trace out the outline onto the fabric. If the wood is too flaky it won't sand nicely. If it's too thick then it becomes harder to drill small exact holes into (that are straight and even) any recommendations? TIA

I'm a semi professional (meaning I do it in my spare time as a 2nd job, for money) refinisher and I got asked by a customer to totally refinish their dining set. They'd like painted chairs (6) and for the table (approx 8 x 3) to go from the old dark toned look to a light farm house. I haven't had to strip and sand that large of a piece yet and based on the last job I did which were two 28" x 28" end tables... I'm thinking it's over 20 hours of labor just on the table. I'm going to see if I can convince them to let me just strip and stain the top and paint the legs and body to match the chairs. How much would you charge?
