I am refinishing a cabinet and I'm down to the wood and it has been stained, and the stain is real dark. Is there any way to remove the stain and get it light again?

I can usually sand down to the natural color. If the piece is made of oak, you may have a harder time. Oak is very "porous" and soaks up stain pretty deeply.

Sometimes you can lighten the wood with a 2 part bleach - look for that description at your home center or paint store. Notice I said 'sometimes'. Whether it works or not depends on the wood as well as the stain itself.

Sanding always works, but be careful if you're sanding veneer.
