Kitchen Cabinets

I am trying to give 30 year old cabinets a new look. I don't want to do anything drastic, but the cabinets need help! The kitchen is very small and the cabinets are a "Dark Walnut". I don't know if they were stained or what, so I'm not much help there. I am open to all possiblities... thanks for your help!

There are several companies (probably one near you) that specialize in 'refacing' cabinets. A new surface is applied to the face frames, door and drawer fronts. This can drastically change the look of your kitchen.
As far as a DoItYourSelf project that doesn't get too involved, I'd paint 'em.
