refinishing wood on baby grand piano

We are purchasing a mahogany baby grand. There is "alligatoring" on the finish from being exposed to the sun. Does it need to be refinished? Is it something we can do without taking the piano apart?

Refinishing piano

Go the Furniture Refinishing Home Page and click Search. Type in the word 'piano' to find discussion. There have been quite a few good threads recently that discussed piano refinishing. Also type in the Search key word box the words 'alligatored finish' and read the threads. George gives step by step instructions for evening out alligatored lacquer and shellac finishes.
