Vaneer messed up

I lightly sanded a vaneer headboard and totally messed it up. I want to varnish the headboard. There are patches where I can see the pressed wood. How can I fix the problem before I revarnish.

Seal the 'burn-through' areas with shellac. Use artist oil colors to 'touch up' the affected areas. Use an aerosol shellac to seal the reapir. You can now varnish the headboard.

FYI: By sealing the damaged areas with shellac and using artist oil colors for the touch up, you can 'erase' mistakes with paint thinner and a rag until you get it 'just right'. Then, after the oils dry, top coat with shellac to seal in the work, let that dry, and your repair will be virtually undetectable after finishing with varnish.
