Kitchen cabinet refinishing
I'm planning to remodel my kitchen--new countertop, sink, and flooring. My cabinets were installed 17 years ago, but are solid and look o.k. I'm thinking about stripping the old finish and restaining. What process and products should I use to accomplish this? Thanks.

If the cabinets were factory finished, the finish is almost certainly lacquer. 1 50:50 mix of lacquer thinner and denatured alcohol is as good for lacquer as any commercial paint/varnish remover and a lot cheaper.
You'll need to remove the doors (and hardware). Work on one door or drawer at a time. Leave the doors down for staining and finishing.
The mix I mentioned above is highly flammable, as well as toxic. You need to work and a wel;l ventilated area, and a respirator (not a dust mask) wouldn't be a bad idea.
Use 00 steel wool to apply the mix and remove the finish. Your work area needs to be covered with enwspaper and inadvertent spills dealt with immediately.
