repairing finish on painted table

I have a dining room table that is painted with white enamel.
It has some scratches and gouches that are thru to the wood
What would be the best way to fill these in order to put a new
coat of paint without having to strip the whole peace. thanks for your help.

I'd use one of the 'wood putty' compounds. They're available in half pint cans at an economical cost. I prefer Famowood brand but 3M is good also. Just follow the instructions.

I'd suggest a litle touch of primer on the repaired area after the final sanding to insure proper adhesion when you repaint.
