How To Remove Shellac From Kitchen Cabinets
#1

MY KITCHEN CABINETS ARE A BEAUTIFUL KNOTTY PINE, BUT THE PREVIOUS OWNER USED A THICK ORANGE SHELLAC ON THEM, THIS SHELLAC MAKES THEM LOOK OLD-FASHIONED AND DATED. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY FOR ME TO REMOVE THE SHELLAC SO THE LIGHT PINE CAN COME THROUGH. ALSO ONCE I HAVE REMOVED THE SHALLAC, DO I NEED TO SAND EACH CABINET , AND I WOULD LIKE TO PUT JUST A CLEAR FINISH ON IT SO THE CABINETS STAY LIGHT, ANY SUGGESTIONS? THANK YOU

a 50:50 mix of denatured alcohol and lacquer thinner will cut the shellac on your cabinets.
If they are cleaned thoroughly with this mixture no sanding is necessary before applying a finish.
