Storing Oak in an Attic ?? Help !
#1

I moved recently and had to store my 20 year old Oak table and chairs in an attic in NJ. The attic gets very hot and very cold. Will the wood be OK ? Can I wrap the furniture in something to protect it ? Your advice is appreciated. Thankyou.

In a word - DON'T!
The extreme variations in temperature will wreak havoc on the glue, finish, and wood.
Wrapping the furniture offers no protection at all. Indeed, if the wrapping is airtight (plastic covering, for instance), you'll only make the problem worse.
Find someplace to store the furniture where the climate is controlled - or you'll loose it.

Thank you George
George,
Thank you for your advice about storing my furniture. I thought that attic storage might be harmful to oak and you emphatically confirmed my suspicions. I have since been able to relocate my table and chairs to various parts of the house - both seen and unseen areas ! (Table tops fit nicely under beds). Thanks again for saving me from a disaster.
