I am a do-it yourselfer neophyte. I have a chest of drawers that I would like to paint a whitewash and than stencil. I believe itl is a veneer finish. Where do I start?

Sand - just enough to remove the current sheen. Wipe clean, Prime, then paint.

Hi to all, I usually strip my furniture, but on an old "garden" table I put a coat of fresh paint, to distress, do I just want to sandpaper it a little, I plan on stenciling it a little also, any ideas?
