Unhappy Bubbles in polyurethane

Hi...I was staining and topcoating a wood interior door. It was laying flat on work horses. When I did the poly, I got tiny bubbles sitting on top of the coat. Repeated passes reduced the number, but new ones would appear. I did not shake the can, and I did gently stir before using. What would cause this? I applied the poly with a very good brush..not sure if it was bristle or polyester.

The simplest way I know to reduce bubbles is to thin the poly before applying, and brush as little as possible.

The ocmbination of these two techniques should help your situation.

Put the poly on, spread it, and leave it alone - the more you 'fuss' with it trying to remove bubbles the worse it will get.

With thinned poly, virtually all of the bubbles will disappear on their own if you leave them alone.
