Insulating garage doors!

When I purchased my house in 2000, I chose not to buy the insulated garage package. However, they ended up insulating the walls and ceiling. My doors are single sided noninsulated metal doors. I'm getting ready to insulate them and was wondering how much you guys think this will help. My 3 garage doors face the south.

Thanks for your help and answers in advance.

Performin Norman,

Insulating the garage door would be a help and is simple to do. Since your walls and ceiling are insulated, how much would insulating the door do? Well if it ain't insulated and you add some, it's better than what you have, right?

Install some foil faced rigid insulation - use liquid nails. Adding 2" would be R-10, I believe and this will help. I assume that your walls may be at least R-13 or R19 so this should do fine.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your response. I appreciate it. I was planning on putting 1/5 inch foam insulation in the door. It fits perfect. Then covering it with an 1/8 inch white laminant so it would look really nice.

Performin Norman,

Your idea sounds better than mine for a finished look! Should be great for you!

Enjoy a semi-warmer garage! (just got to add heat, cable TV and lounge chair!)
