Auto garage doors, Chan or screw
#1

I have just read in the DIY.com free email 'community news' (2/10/2000) that the chain drive automatic garage door opener is reccomended. I was always told that the screw drive was smoother, more reliable and quieter.
Any thoughts please?

The chain drive is a little more noisy, but takes less maintaince and is more reliable.
The screw drive is smoother, and quieter. But, as you know garage door openers are not that precise a piece of equipment. If you have a screw drive, and it gets a set in it or a bend, excuse the expression, but you are screwed. Chain drives are easy to repair if something goes wrong also. Hope this helps you.
