Question

I am wondering whether I need to hurry up and finish the job of building my detached garage once I have put up the framework. My concern is having the wood exposed to sun and rain for the few weeks it takes me to build the thing. Does one generally have to cover the wood with the tar paper and shingles right away, or do I have some time between steps?

You have time. You can leave it a few weeks without any damage. Your biggest problem will be the wind. You will have to brace and cross brace or the wind will leave you will a pile of toothpicks. It does not take much wind either. Good Luck
