Wacky Garage Door Opener
#1

I have a Genie garage door opener. It has just started to open and close by itself at seemingly random intervals. Sometimes the remote device doesn't work, and the buttons to push on the garage wall don't seem to work anymore?
Any ideas?

You did not say how old your opener is, but it sounds like the circuit board inside of the opener probably is worn out. Now you have two choices. You can mess with this little problem for awhile and waste alot of time and probably not fix it, or go out and spend $125.00 and buy a new opener. Openers are made to wear out. If yours is about 7 years old or older, it has run its course.

If you have an older Genie opener with older remote controls, take the battery out of the remote control and see if everything works ok. Does the opener still go up by itself when you do this? In the older Genie remote controls, there is a thin metal strip that makes contact inside the remote, directly under the button. Sometimes this strip becomes weak and sticks to the contact, causing the door to operate by itself. If this is the case, you only need a new remote. Genie has new remotes that have eliminated this problem. Curt the garage door guy.
