Block vs. Poured foundation

I'm considering building a detached garage and I've been asked if I'll be using a Block or Poured foundation. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each ? Also what are the cost considerations ?

I'll be contracting the foundation work.

This is kind of a personal preference. Both are good. I prefer a poured foundation, because it is quick, easy to install, low on labor, less cost, etc. Block is higher in labor, takes longer, and you still have to pour a concrete foundation under the blocks.

garage door remote quit working

Please disregard the partial "cont'd" message. Here's the whole thing: The remote on my five-year old Wayne-Dalton garage door opener suddenly quit working. I replaced the battery--and double checked its installation--but still nothing. The wall button now blinks continuously, but pushing it still opens and closes the door just fine. Any help would be appreciated.Read More

I have a wooden two car garage door with what appears to be an opener from a garage sale(thus the $ on masking tape). I wood like to install a sensor for toddler safety. Can they be installed separate from the original garage door opener?Read More
