Question

I just bought a new house. It came with a garage, but the no garage door. I want to add a door. Problem: The door entrance is very low -- maybe 6'3''.

So, I am thinking that adding a new roll garage door would take it even lower and then I would have to bend down everytime I go in. So I wanted to add swing doors. Kind of like bar doors :-)

First, do you think this is a good idea?
Second, what wood would I use? I was going to build the doors myself.
Lastley, I would like to eventually add an electric door opener. I thought I could build something that would take a regular door opener and open these swing doors.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Please forgive me, but I am having alot of trouble with this picture. 1. Does your garage have a rool up door ? 2. with a tape measure, measure the distance between the floor and the bottom of the header ? 3. How did the garage door open when you bought the house. 4. How tall are you ? Come back with these answers and we will go to step 2.

Jack,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Here are the answers that you asked for:

1) Yes, it does have a roof.
2) Height is 6'11'
3) There never was a garage door on it.
4) I am 6'1'' tall.

Why don't you just put a 7x9 roll up garage door up ?
