Re-Finishing Garages Doors

I have 2 over sized garage doors that were stained and covered with some kind of clear finish which is now peeling and fading near the bottom where rain hits the most. I would like to re-do them with a stain finish. How can I get old finish off enough to look good and should I stain them

Personally, I would never stain a garage door. I would paint it. There is a new and very hard paint just out, about 6 months now, that is made for garage doors. It was developed for metal doors that need repainting. It is very good, but you will not find it in the paint sections. It will be with garage doors, in the home improvement store. You might look into that.
