I installed a used garage door opener and I bought a clicker because it didn't come with one when I bought it used. The opener has worked fine but since colder weather moved in..20-30f the opener does not respond to the clicker. Could I have dirty contacts or why does cold weather affect the operation? It is a older stanley (15 yrs) 1/4 hp opener for a 8 by 7 lightweight door. Can I repair it rather than buy new?

Probably replace your opener. You have an excellent brand. Most openers only last about 5 to 7 years. 3000 opens and closes.
Your problem is with your circuit board in the opener. The older openers did not work well in colder weather. The new ones are just fine.

Sorry Jack but i disagree if I had to buy and opener Stanley would be the last one on this list for me. I found Stanleys to be the cheapest opener I ever had to repair and the lowest quality. The best one for your money is sears which is identical to liftmaster which is pitched by Paul Harvey.
