how to insulate

Can I use 4x8 foam panels to tack up on my rafters and tape the seams to keep the heat in in the winter? I dont wannt climb way up there and to the 23" spaces with roll type insulation. The ceiling height is ten feet and the rafters looks to be 4' apart. thanks

Mombo,

You will have to do more than that to stay withing the code. Check with your local building inspector but I think that you will find the below application to be required. This will mean additional framing to hold your drywall up and at this point, maybe applying batt insualtion or blown would be best.

*Code advises a 15 minute fire rated material over any rigid insulation - 1/2" Drywall*

Hope this helps!
