Question Broken Garage Door Spring

One of the torsion springs broke on my garage door last night. Whats the best approach to fix this? Have a garage door contractor do it or can I find the parts somewhere to do it myself? I usually would not think of having a contractor do the work but I've heard that its dangerous to work on these springs. Are any special tools required?

You are correct. It can be a dangerous job, and does require special tools.
Usuually, but not always, both springs need to be replaced.
Pkease call a pro do do this job.

i recently ordered a "clopay" door (16x7) and installed it myself. they come with an "ez spring" that you simply adjust with a power drill. it was a piece of cake to do.
