was hoping someone could suggest good brands for replacing a garage door. thanks

I have a Sears opener that I installed in October 1998. I put in a wireless keypad at the same time, and programmed the opener to work with both the keypad and the remote for in the car. It worked fine until about a month ago, the remote stopped working, but the keypad still worked fine. I tried to have it relearn the remote, and it still did not work, so I put a new battery in the remote. I still could not get the opener to accept the remote, so I erased the memory by holding the SRT button until the LED went out, and was then able to learn the remote. But, I could not get it to relearn the keypad. I cleared the memory again, and tried the keypad first, and was able to learn it, but then could not learn the remote. It will only learn whatever I first program after clearing, but not the second, no matter which order I try. I tried a spare remote (from my other door opener, which was installed in Jan 2000) and found I could program the opener to accept both remotes, and not the keypad, or it would accept the keypad, but neither remote. (note, I am not holding the SRT button so long that it is clearing memory during programing) This made me think the keypad had a problem, so I tried a new battery in the keypad, and still had the same problem. I then bought a new keypad at Sears, it is labeled rolling code, and according to the package should work with my opener (the opener was made over a year after the January 1997 date listed on the keypad package). The new opener behaves exactly the same! I also noticed that when not programed the LED on the opener blinks when pressing a button on a remote or after entering a code and pressing Enter on the keypad. Once programed, it will only blink for the device it was first programed to accept- ie both remotes or the keypad, but not a remote and keypad at the same time. I also can not get either keypad to work with the newer opener on my other door, even if I clear the memory. Strange, this one is even newer. I have not tried both keypads at the same time yet, I will need a helper for this, but will try this, although I do not know what that will prove. Any ideas? Thanks, Howard
