truss vs ridge beam
I'm finally making progress on the garage. I had a 20 x 24 slab poured today and I'm trying to decide on pre-made trusses or a stick built roof. I'm no carpenter but I'm pretty handy and a quick study. Any advice?

Don't even think about anything other then pre made trusses. You can buy them for less money then you can buy the lumber, gang nails, to build a rafter. Also one other thing, Alot of building departments will not allow home made rafters. Good Luck

Thanks guys. I spoke with a local truss factory and that's the route I'm taking. They said it'll be next week before they could lay a price on me. How much should I expect? Its going to be a 6-12 20 feet across the end looking at the gable with a foot overhang. They also said that they make pre-made walls also so I'm checking into that. Probably be too much for my budget though...

Menards, and Home Depot sell 6/12 x 20' long for about $60.00 each. Good price. The strength for the price cannot be beaten. Good Choice.

I don't know where you live, so am not sure if your home depot carries them. Many of the west coast stores do. Good Luck
