My dad has a two car garage with two 8ft wide doors. He is having trouble pulling in with out scrapping the mirror od the side of his vehicle. Is it possible to make this a one door garage? The 2 doors are seperated by a column--of bricks. My first concern are the bricks above the column. It is a ranch house and nothing above the garage.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
Converting it to a single door is possible but it will require,
1. Larger than normal or custom size garager door.
2. Removal of the brick above doors if existing
3. Removal of existing center column
4. Replacing existing garage door headers with LVL's or GluLam to accommodate span and roof load
5. Reinstalling new sheathing and brick veneer above door
With all this said, a temp wall will have to be built to support the roof load if hip is facing garage door.
Hope this helps!
