installing garage door openers

I just built a 24'wx40'dx9'h garage, installed 9'x8' doors. The problem I am having now is the door openers need mounted 2 1/2" above the highest travel point of the door, @ the highest point of the door there is only 1/2" gap to the truss. If I cut 2 1/2" off of the door track and lower only the track would this work to install openers or is it possible to recess the openers into the ceiling? Doors are located @ the gable end, trusses are 2' centers. If I do this there would be 2-2x8 on each cut end of the truss and a 3/4 ply on top (it will look like a 3 sided box recessed into the ceiling).

I wouldn't go cutting trusses......modifying any part of the truss could have un-intended consequenses on the rest of it.

You might look instead into an opener like the Dalton "I" drive or something that mounts to the side of the torsion bar rather than a conventional residential type opener with the ceiling track.
