Garage Door Stops when shutting

I have a Craftsman garage door opener. When we shut the garage door it partially shuts and then reopens. It seems that if it is catching on something, however, I can't see anything that is the cause of the garage door to catch on. Is there a setting that can be set and if so, could the sensitivity setting be set to low. It is currently set on 2'ish on the downward setting.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

JohnC62,

I am assuming that you have 2 levels of adjustment on your opener.

It sounds as though you need to adjust the down force by turning it clockwise. Make small adjustments until the door completes a close cycle. After each adjustment, run the opener through a complete travel cycle, down and up.

Check for any binding or rubbing that could cause it to go back up. If the force is set too light (too sensitive), it will not go down without reversing.

Hope this helps!

I too have the same problem when shutting down the garage door. The opener (old Stanley) has a force adjustment on both opening and closing. I tried to make adjustment on closing but couldn't get it to work right. Any other suggestion?

Thanks.
