Loft design question
Hi all,
I am building a free standing storage loft that will be 8' high and has 12'x20' dimensions. I will be following a deck design, with four corner posts and two beams on the 12' sides. Then joists running on top of the beams across the 20' span.
The engineering tables I have indicate that 2"x12" joists spaced at 12" OC will be sufficient for a 21' span that supports 40psi.
This assumes that I put the two beams on the 12' ends. But does it matter? Can I put the beams on the 20' side and then put 12' joists on top of that? Also, the beams will be two 2"x12"s together.
Thanks, Sam

shague,
Unsure as to what you describe. You may want to send me a sketch of what you are doing and I can better assist. Something seems as though you need better support for the length mentioned.
Hope this helps!
