Question Garage door jerks when it closes

I currently have a genie chain garage door closer. The door is probably 25 years old but the genie is only 5 years old. I have a large spring over the door ( i do not have the side springs). The door raises fine but when it closes the door gets jerky. It looks like the chain guide bangs into the door to push it down instead of it gently pulling the door down. This happens 3 or 4 times. So if you are watching the door. It starts to close, the door pauses, the chain guide bangs into the door, the door moves at bit. The door stops, the chain guide bangs it again. Any suggestions?

Talking Solution at hand-Jerky Doors

It seems that the bolt connecting the j-bar and the straight bar was missing. Normally the two bars are connected by 2 different bolts. I was missing one and that was creating the jekry motion. I replaced it and all is wellhttp://forum.doityourself.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=671642#
