Garage Door Springs

Can someone tell me the different types of springs that are used on garage door openers. Also the advantages and disadvantages assoicated with them. I'm a pretty experienced diy guy, but have never tackled a garage door before. I'm looking to replace a couple of doors and the store wants to know what kind of springs I want (or need). Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Stick with the extension spring set-up.

The other type of spring system called torsion springs, which can become a problem even for the most experienced diy guy.

Torsion springs do work better than extension, but they are more expensive to fix and to the non-expericenced person can be very dangerous.

Describe the door and its action. Jamb track, Pivot, springs above door, each side in pairs or single, along a horizontal overhead track.

Wink

For sure go with the extension springs. Very easy for a DIY to work on them and balance the door.
